Beyoncé Establishes New Scholarship Program for Students at HBCUs

Entertainer Beyoncé Knowles, through her BeyGOOD Foundation. has established the Homecoming Scholars Award Program that will benefit students at four historically Black educational institutions. One student at Tuskegee University in Alabama, Xavier University in New Orleans, Wilberforce University in Ohio, and Bethune-Cookman University in Dayton Beach, Florida, will each receive a $25,000 scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year.

The scholarships are open to students in disciplines of literature, creative arts, African American studies, science, education, business, communications, social sciences, computer science and engineering. To be eligible, students must have a 3.5 grade point average. The participating universities will choose the recipients of the scholarships.

Charlotte P. Morris, interim president of Tuskegee University, stated that “We salute Beyoncé’s philanthropic spirit in support of education and the mission of historically Black colleges and universities.”
