Southern University Partners With Baton Rouge Community College

Southern University, the historically Black educational institution in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has entered into an agreement with Baton Rouge Community College. Under the agreement, student at the community college who complete an associate’s degree in science will be able to transfer all credits and pursue a bachelor’s degree in the College of Sciences and Engineering at Southern University. Students who have achieved a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average while completing their associate’s degree in general science or computer science will be able to transfer into bachelor’s degree programs at Southern University.

Baton Rouge Community College enrolls nearly 7,300 students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up 43 percent of the student body.

Ray L. Belton, chancellor of Southern University, Baton Rouge, stated that “this agreement between two of the leading institutions of higher learning in the state is another step in expanding our offerings in STEM. This new program will allow a greater number of students to seamlessly matriculate and obtain their bachelor’s degrees right here in Baton Rouge. We look forward to their success and another great partnership with BRCC.”
