Two African Americans Appointed to Positions as Deans

Deanna Dixon was promoted to dean of admission at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Since 2012, she has been serving as associate director of admission and coordinator of multicultural recruitment at the college. Dixon joined the admissions staff at Smith in 2006.

Dixon is a 1988 graduate of Smith College, where she majored in biological sciences and Afro-American studies. She holds an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.

John A. Kuykendall was appointed dean of the School of Education at the University of Indianapolis. He will take office on July 1. Dr. Kuykendall has been serving as an associate professor of education and director of the School of Education at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Earlier, he taught graduate courses in higher education at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Dr. Kuykendall is a graduate of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where he majored in biology education. He holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Christian Brothers University in Memphis and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Indiana University.
