New Assignments for Five Black Scholars at Major Universities

Staci Perryman-Clark, an associate professor of English at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, has been given the added duties as associate dean of the Lee Honors College at the university. She is the author of Afrocentric Teacher-Research: Rethinking Appropriateness and Inclusion (Peter Lang International Publishers, 2012).

Dr. Perryman-Clark is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she majored in creative writing and literature. She earned a master’s degree in literature from Eastern Michigan University and a Ph.D. in rhetoric and writing from Michigan State University.

Andre Carrington was promoted to associate professor of English at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He was also awarded tenure. Dr. Carrington joined the faculty at Drexel in 2012.

Dr. Carrington is a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he majored in African American studies. He holds a Ph.D. in American studies from New York University.

Leonard N. Moore, a professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin, has been given the added duties of vice president for diversity and community engagement. Dr. Moore joined the faculty at the university in 2007 after teaching at Louisiana State University.

A native of Cleveland, Professor Moore is a graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi. He holds a Ph.D. from Ohio State University.

Jerry Whitmore Jr. was appointed clinical assistant professor in the higher education administration program at Boston University. He was director of first-year and retention programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Whitmore holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from Middle Tennessee State University. He earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research from Louisiana State University.

Helane Davis, professor of law and directory of the law library at the University of Idaho, has been appointed librarian for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver Colorado.

Professor Davis is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She earned a master of library and information science degree at the University of Washington and a juris doctorate at the University of Iowa.
