Florida A&M University Commits to Enhance Campus Health and Wellness

Historically Black Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University has announced a three-year commitment to enhance the campus environment and its wellness efforts by joining the Partnership for a Healthier America’s Healthier Campus Initiative. Under the initiative the university plans to take a number of steps designed to promote health and wellness. These include:

* Provide healthier food and beverage options at campus dining facilities. This will include having five fruits and five vegetables at all lunch and dinner meals.

* Make free water available in all dining, educational, and physical activity facilities.

* Providing students access to counseling by registered dietitian nutritionists on campus.

* The establishment of walking routes on campus. When these routes cross roadways, designated crosswalks will require cars to stop for pedestrians.

* Offering a bicycle share/rental program on campus.

* Offering students free access to fitness and recreation facilities for at least 16 hours a day.

W. Rebecca Brown, assistant vice president for finance and administration/business & auxiliary services at Florida A&M University, stated that “a healthy mind, body and soul are necessary for a productive lifestyle. It is our pleasure to help our guests accomplish this.”
