Two Black Scholars Appointed to Dean Positions at Albany State University in Georgia

Albany State University, the historically Black educational institution in Georgia, has announced the appointment of two African Americans to dean positions at the university.

Alicia J Jackson was named interim dean of the College of Professional Studies. Since 2015, she has been serving as dean of the College of Business at the university. Earlier, she was an associate professor of management and dean of the School of Business at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. From 1999 to 2007, Dr. Jackson was dean of the College of Business and Information Science at Tuskegee University in Alabama.

Dr. Jackson is a graduate of Knox College in Illinois, where she majored in mathematics. She holds an MBA in accounting from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.

Zephyrinus C. Okonkwo was appointed interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the university. He is a professor of mathematics and has served as the director of the Center for Undergraduate Research at the university. He joined the faculty at Albany State University in 1999.

Dr. Okonkwo holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and education and a master’s degree in engineering analysis from the University of Lagos in Nigeria. He earned a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Texas at Arlington.

  1. Great for Professors at Albany State. My Great Great Grandfather, Mr Alexander Pone. He started the Pone’s Aiding Society in Albany GA. This was designed to help the poor. There is a cemetery in back of Union Baptist Church w my relatives
