Notable Appointments of African Americans in Higher Education

Mark G. Henderson, interim chair of the department of speech, communication, and theatre at Jackson State University in Mississippi, was elected president of the National Association of Dramatic & Speech Arts. The organization, founded in 1936, has about 25 to 30 college and university members. Henderson will serve a two-year term as president of the organization.

Dr. Henderson is graduate of Jackson State University. He holds a master’s degree from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Andrea Ferguson was named an assistant professor of practical nursing at Bainbridge College in southwest Georgia. She teaches courses on pharmacology and nutrition.

A graduate of Southwest Georgia Technical College, she is completing a bachelor’s degree at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus.

Sheila R. Johnson-Willis was named director for equal employment opportunity and affirmative action at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Her appointment is effective in June. She has been serving as director of affirmative action compliance and Title IX coordinator at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

Johnson-Willis is a graduate of Albion College in Michigan and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.
