Position Description
The Hugh Downs School of Human Communication (HDSHC) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the Tempe Campus of Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor with expertise in health and/or technology-mediated communication. Applicants should have an emerging or established research program in one or both areas, with the capacity to contribute to teaching and scholarship across one or more of the School’s three research clusters: Global Media, Culture and Performance Studies; Organizational and Interpersonal Communication; and Strategic and Health Communication. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, academic-year (9-month), tenure-track in-person faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2027. Essential Functions
- Develop and maintain a high-quality research program in health and/or technology-mediated communication.
- Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Mentor and publish with graduate students.
- Contribute to curriculum development as needed.
- Serve on school, college, and university committees, appropriate for rank.
- Provide service to professional associations and/or the community.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- PhD. in Communication or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- A strong record of scholarship in health communication and/or technology-mediated communication commensurate with years of experience.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, commensurate with years of experience.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to teaching and/or research that falls within one or more of the School’s research clusters: Global Media, Culture and Performance Studies; Organizational and Interpersonal Communication; and Strategic and Health Communication.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in both health and technology-mediated communication.
- Evidence of potential or experience related to securing external funding.
- Ability to teach courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level related to quantitative or mixed-methods research.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.

- Evidence of excellence in teaching (e.g., teaching philosophy, student evaluations, advisor/peer evaluations).
- Evidence of excellence in scholarship (e.g., reprints of no more than three articles or book chapters).
