Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Creative Services will partner with internal stakeholders to develop campaign elements, print designs, environmental branding and signage, infographics and digital assets for Bentley University. This position also includes print and digital production (i.e. flowing and formatting content, editing existing work, sourcing photography, creating digital assets, etc.)
This graphic designer is expected to produce a high volume of creative deliverables, ensuring that all elements meet established design standards, follow brand guidelines and are delivered on time. This role works independently as well as with other designers/content creators, university partners, marketing managers and in-house developers. This role reports to the Design Director and is part of the Marketing and Communications division at Bentley.
Essential Duties
- Design new / update print items including brochures, postcards, posters, invitations and direct mail.
- Produce various elements for fully integrated brand campaigns and events including design systems, logos, infographics and signage.
- Create digital assets including banner ads, social media assets and graphics.
- Package print work for production using style sheets, master pages for layout and brand consistency.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the brand standards and act as brand ambassador with internal partners.
- Present creative to internal partners using thoughtful rationale.
- Follow current design trends, innovative technologies and modern design and typographic principles.
Other Duties
- Develop compelling editorial design for the award-winning Bentley alumni magazine and other annual reports.
- Participate in conceptual ideation for larger integrated campaigns as needed.
- Support environmental branding efforts, both interior and exterior, including partnering with production manager, facilities and outside vendors. Understand materials, industry guidelines and installation best practices.
- Collaborate with multimedia producer to concept, plan and give art direction to photographers, videographers and illustrators as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic/visual design or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in graphic design.
- Experience in print (traditional offset and digital technologies), modern, responsive web design and environmental graphics (signage, displays, installations, etc.).
- Experience in providing effective design support for high-profile events such as Commencement, conferences, alumni and admissions events, executive presentations and more.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).
- Advanced typography skills, color sense and photography aesthetic.
- Demonstrates the capability to consistently adhere to and uphold brand principles across all design projects while pushing the boundaries of innovative solutions.
- Highly organized, able to multitask, work well under budgetary and deadline pressure and have proven client service skills, working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
- Ability to communicate appropriately with varied groups of people, including university partners, leaders, vendors and others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agency experience.
- Higher Education experience.
- Proficiency with additional design platforms including Canva, XD/Sketch/Figma, Drupal, Anthology or Slate.
- Experience with editing photo and video or creating animations.
- Online portfolio included in resume is strongly preferred.
Work Environment
- Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
- Ability to travel across campus for various events, meetings and design related work.
