Job Description:

The Development Coordinator (DC) provides comprehensive fundraising and high-level administrative support for the development efforts to build a strong and supportive community of alumni, parents, and friends at Brown University. They play a critical role in regional development and provide an advanced level of direct support to fundraisers – this could include support of Regional Development Directors, Assistant Vice President, or Vice President, with significant engagement and/or management responsibilities in addition to fundraising goals.

Using knowledge of donor interest and University priorities, the DC coordinates all aspects of cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship for the prospect portfolios of the team members they work with. These responsibilities include the management of a five-, six-, seven-, eight-, or possibly nine-figure gift portfolio pipeline; providing updated information about programs and funding opportunities for donor cultivation and proposal development; managing selected special events; managing information technology duties; providing regular gift reports; and drafting strategies, proposals, briefings, and gift agreements to advance relationships and gift conversations and closures.

In collaboration with the donor stewardship team, the DC will help ensure appropriate stewardship activities on behalf of the fundraisers. The DC will help coordinate regional travel by the fundraisers as well as senior administrators and faculty ensuring effective use of senior administrators working with Advancement.

Adherence to Division policies and best practices is expected. This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and a high level of organization, initiative, and professionalism.

This Coordinator can be located in Providence, RI, or the San Francisco Bay Area.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field such as development, sales, customer relations, administrative, and/or higher education

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to interact and develop relationships with high-level alumni and parents, prospects, and donors.
  • Demonstrated ability with computer software programs and internet-based solutions including but not limited to, Google Workspace, word processing, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently with strong project/time management skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a higher education, fundraising, or non-profit setting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud is a plus.
  • Experience in event management is desired. Knowledge of Zoom (both meeting and webinar formats) is preferred.
