Job Description:
The Research Assistant will assist with protein sample preparation and organization on behalf of core facility users. This position will perform manual and semi-automated bottom-up protein digestion, sample desalting, lyophilization, and reconstitution prior to transferring samples to the Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry System (LC/MS) for analysis. With support from the Proteomics Core Manager, the Research Assistant will analyze acquired LC/MS data. Additionally, the Research Assistant will help troubleshoot any issues that arise in the preparation of the samples and collection and analysis of the data.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 06/30/2026 which may be extended based upon available funding.
Job Qualifications:
Education and Experience (Grade 7)
- Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field
- Undergraduate research experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields with previous experience working in a laboratory setting preferred.
- Relevant coursework and knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Proteins, Chemistry, and Biochemistry.
- And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong computer skills with experience using software for the analysis of protein mass spectrometry data is advantageous.
- Experience working with proteins (i.e. Western Blots, BCAs, Purification, performing proteomic sample prep (e.g. Protifi S-Trap, In solution digestion, Barocycler assisted-digestion, on-bead digestion, PreOmics etc.) is a plus.
Education and Experience (Grade 8)
- Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field plus 1-2 years relative experience.
- Undergraduate research experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.
- Relevant coursework and knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Proteins, Chemistry, and Biochemistry.
- And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong computer skills with experience using software for the analysis of protein mass spectrometry data is advantageous.
