Bryn Mawr College has an opening for a Neuroscience Research Technician.
THE POSITION
Bryn Mawr College is seeking applications for a full-time (40 hours per week, year-round), benefit-eligible Research Technician in the Grafe Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory within the Department of Psychology. This fixed-term position, supported by a federal research grant, is initially offered for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on performance and continued funding. The Grafe lab investigates the impact of stress on the brain and related behaviors, such as cognitive flexibility, using rodent models. Our National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded project will explore how orexins influence sex differences in cognitive flexibility following stress.
Primary Responsibilities:
The technician will be trained by the Principal Investigator (PI) and will then work with both the PI and undergraduate researchers to conduct experimental aspects of the funded project. These include (but are not limited to): surgical procedures, hormone injections, behavioral injections, fiber photometry, processing and immunohistochemical analysis of brain tissue, microscopy, and data analysis. The technician will also assist with maintaining compliance with external regulatory agencies (IACUC, OLAW) and will participate in animal husbandry, inventory of lab supplies, and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Requirements: Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field, with at least one year of relevant research experience, particularly with rodents. The ideal applicant will possess excellent organizational and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently. Experience with fiber photometry is preferred but not required. Strong collaboration skills for working with undergraduate students are essential.
