Summary
Under the direction of the LCSW, Manager, the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) will provide mental health services to the college community, and primarily for students accessing services through the LGBTQ+ and UndocuFalcon Scholars Programs. The LCSW primarily provides direct student mental health services, including individual and group therapy, clinical triage, crisis intervention, assessment, and consultation. This position may assist with preceptorship to interns and other mental health professionals who provide clinical services to students as needed. This position may assist with providing non-clinical services such as policy, procedure and practice review as needed. Additionally, this position may serve as a resource for mental health prevention and promotion activities including classroom presentations and staff/faculty professional development activities.

Distinguishing Career Features

The LCSW reports to the Manager, LCSW. This position provides direct clinical mental health services to students, including clinical triage, crisis intervention and assessment and consultation, brief individual and group therapy. The LCSW may also support the MSW Internship training program through precepting and providing non-clinical services to support the department and college community as needed.

Job Duties

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide brief assessment for clinical triage to allow for matching of services based on student need including crisis intervention and same day appointments, urgent appointments or routine short-term therapy and/or referral to group therapy or outside provider or specialist.
  • Provide mental health services, including brief individual and group therapy and mental health assessment and referral services to culturally diverse students with a wide range of mental health needs and intersectional identities to support their academic success and retention.
  • Assist with the graduate internship program, including the recruitment, preceptorship, and/or training of MSW interns/trainees
  • Perform a variety of clinical, training, and administrative duties in support of the Manager, LCSW
  • Serve as a consultant/resource person to college faculty and staff regarding students with mental health concerns

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree in social work, and a California license as a licensed clinical social worker.
  • A minimum of 2 years post-licensure experience and have practiced therapy during at least 2 years out of the last 5 years. Have completed or will complete within 90 days of hire, a clinical supervision course that meets the California Board of Behavioral Sciences standards.
  • Experience with brief therapy model.
  • Therapeutic experience in working with clients from diverse backgrounds and/or those for whom English is not the first language.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of the student, community and employee populations.
  • Work with the core hours of 10:0am to 4:00pm (negotiable), Monday through Thursday.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years working with a college aged population and/or non-traditional aged students.
  • Two years working with marginalized populations, particularly LGBTQ+ and Undocumented community members.
  • Clinical preceptorship of interns or other mental health professionals.

Licenses and Certificates
Master’s degree in Social Work and possession of a current and valid license as issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

The position requires professional knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention/emergency services and demonstrated crisis intervention skills and techniques.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards of licensed mental health professionals.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation and recordkeeping rules and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to providing direct mental health care and clinical preceptorship to student interns or other mental health professionals.

The position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • Providing mental health services, including clinical triage, brief individual and group therapy and mental health assessment and referral services to students with a wide range of mental health needs to support their academic success and retention.
  • Providing mental health services to clients from diverse backgrounds and intersectional identities.
  • Precepting and training graduate-level interns/trainees.

AbilitiesThe position requires the ability to:

  • Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to providing direct clinical preceptorship to student interns or other mental health professionals.
  • Provide mental health services, including clinical triage, brief individual and group therapy and mental health assessment and referral services to students with a wide range of mental health needs to support their academic success and retention.

Conditions of Employment
Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice and remit the required fee for processing the fingerprints, Federal Bureau of Investigation (no fee if obtained at Cerritos College Campus Police Station), produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.
