Position Purpose

This position focuses on increasing Evergreen education inside carceral settings, with the specific goal to initiate and lead program implementation for Evergreen’s Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree program within prisons.

This position is responsible for 1) supervising Evergreen Prison Education Project (EPEP) Network staff, including the Gateways program lead, the Education Reentry Navigator, Liberations Scholars lead and other staff, students, and volunteers as needed; providing managerial support to program leads for day-to-day operations; and supporting Evergreen faculty working in the Bachelor’s degree program, 2) leading and managing recruitment and admissions, supporting academic and financial aid advising, and providing direct student support services to currently incarcerated Evergreen Bachelor’s degree students, as well as incarcerated students engaged in other EPEP Network programs, 3) leading administrative tasks, including data collection and reporting for the Evergreen degree program and gathering reports from other EPEP Network organizations and providing support to the EPEP Network and Co-Directors to develop and expand programs, manage program evaluation, and contribute to funding proposals, and 4) developing collaborations with education and community organizations and building and maintaining relationships with college offices (Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration, Marketing, Library Services, and Student Success, including Academic and Career Advising, Wellness, Student Activities, etc.).

Program Description

EPEP is a liberation education and reintegration network based at The Evergreen State College. EPEP’s mission is to expand access to an Evergreen education for currently incarcerated and legally liberated people and to provide holistic support for the scholars we serve. The EPEP Network is co-directed by an Evergreen faculty member leading curriculum development and delivery and an administrator leading operations. Network member organizations include Gateways for Incarcerated Youth, Education Reentry Navigator, Liberation Scholars, and the Sustainability in Prisons Project. EPEP is adding a new Bachelor’s degree program to the network. The Bachelor’s program directly serves incarcerated students, providing them with the opportunity to earn an Evergreen degree within Washington State prisons.

This is a full-time, overtime exempt position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College and in Washington prisons, jails, and youth carceral facilities. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.

Salary and Benefits: $5,715 – $5,860 per month of full-time work + excellent benefits including paid sick and vacation leave; paid campus holidays; a generous medical, dental, life, and disability insurance package; and a tuition waiver program.
