Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 8,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The Department of Music at Kutztown University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning fall 2025. The department seeks candidates with proven success and experience teaching marching band and a wind instrument studio including clarinet, tuba/euphonium, French horn, oboe, and/or flute. Other duties assigned according to departmental needs.
Minimum requirements include wind instrument performer/teacher with the ability to assist with the instruction of a marching band and the ability to effectively rehearse music, teach drill, and recruit students from a wide variety of backgrounds. A record of current performance experience on a wind instrument is preferred. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities, continuing scholarly growth, and service.
Required: Earned doctoral degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related music field or ABD with terminal degree by December 31, 2026. Evidence of successful teaching experience appropriate to the responsibilities of the position is also required.
Preference may be given to those with experience in any of the following areas: music education methods, composition and arranging, music technology, music business, and/or ability to teach in distance learning formats. Teaching in distance learning format may be required. Note: if course/s format would change to hybrid and/or online, it will require successful completion of the Teaching Online Certification Course offered through Kutztown University. Candidate should also be willing to learn to drive a 26′ box truck.
A candidate is required to successfully complete the interview process including demonstration of teaching, conducting, and wind instrument performance ability to be considered a finalist. Recommendation for hiring is required from a majority of the regular, full-time faculty within the department.
