Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) seeks a collaborative, student-centered leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Science (COS).
TAMU-CC is a vibrant, relatively young doctoral-granting university and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). With approximately 11,000 students from 47 states and 54 foreign nations and 1,318 faculty and staff, it combines a heritage of teaching excellence with innovation in research and community engagement. TAMU-CC possesses the key elements to support its move to the next level among its peers as a major Hispanic-serving research university. In late 2018, TAMU-CC achieved R2 Doctoral University-High Research Activity classification by the Carnegie Commission of Higher Education, which further promotes the University’s culture of innovation and research. The University has begun to strengthen and grow its infrastructure to support existing and promising new programs.
The College of Science (COS) offers degrees across three departments, including Life Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physical and Environmental Sciences. COS faculty and staff bridge academics and research through interdisciplinary collaborations in classrooms, laboratories, and in the field. The College has more than 1,650 students, including more than 1,450 undergraduates, 145 master’s students, and nearly 70 doctoral students. COS consists of more than 370 faculty and staff, including nearly 60 tenured/tenure-line and 20 professional-track faculty. The College’s FY24 research and grant funding was more than $10 million.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Science. The successful candidate must have a terminal degree appropriate to the College from a regionally accredited university and academic credentials commensurate with the appointment to the rank of full professor. This individual must also have a record of significant administrative experience in a higher education setting, including supervisory experience.
