Position Summary:
The Department of Biological Sciences in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in Ecology at the Assistant Professor level to start August 2027.
We seek candidates whose research addresses significant questions in theoretical and/or empirical ecology, broadly defined. Candidates whose research programs complement current research areas in the department are particularly encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in ecological sciences, or a related field, and demonstrated research accomplishments are expected, as is postdoctoral experience. Successful candidates are expected to establish an extramurally funded research program, contribute to graduate and undergraduate education, including potentially teaching our core undergraduate Ecology course, as well as a graduate level course in their specialty.
This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

The Department of Biological Sciences includes 34 tenured or tenure-track faculty members conducting research and teaching in the areas of ecology, evolutionary biology, genetics, genomics, development, cell biology, and microbiology. Duties will include:
- 40% Teaching or Professional Performance
- 40% Research/Scholarly and/or Creative Activities
- 20% Academic Service Activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Ecology or related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment.
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Demonstrated research accomplishments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A demonstrated commitment to building a scholarly environment through teaching, mentoring, research, outreach, and service.
- Strong national/international record of successful publication and funding in the thematic and/or methodological areas described in the job summary.
- Commitment to, or experience in, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in independent research.
- Strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations.
