Description

There is currently one temporary full-time (10 month/100%), non-tenure track position at Oxnard College. The assignment will begin as Fall 2024 and last through Spring 2025.

Please note that all academic employees of the District are scheduled depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Under the general supervision of a dean or administrator, a Learning Disabilities Specialist assesses and determines a student’s eligibility for accommodations and services in the category of learning disability, reviews external diagnostic reports, determines eligibility and develops appropriate accommodations and methods to improve student learning for all students with disabilities, and provides specialized instruction in multidisciplinary learning.

Representative Duties

Administer comprehensive assessments to students with learning disabilities to determine eligibility to receive services; assess academic proficiency, aptitude-achievement proficiency, and other learning characteristics of students; develop assessment reports; develop student educational contracts in accordance with students’ individual strengths, weaknesses, and academic goals. Develop curriculum, reinforcement lab activities, and prescriptive programs for students with disabilities, including the use of computer aided instruction. E

Evaluate outside assessments and reports to determine eligibility and develop appropriate accommodations and strategies for students with disabilities. E

Meet with students from the general student population to help them determine if learning disability assessment is appropriate. E

Develop and implement training activities for college faculty and staff; demonstrate effective techniques, strategies, and materials used with students with disabilities. E

Participate in the ongoing assessment of student’s educational placement and monitor academic achievement; assist in development, provision, and evaluation of special curriculum; monitor tutorial assistance. E

Refer students to appropriate support services, programs, resources, and other professionals based on need and eligibility for assistance. E

Advocate for students with disabilities and collaborate with college instructors, counselors, and other campus and community resources to assist students in the pursuit of their educational goals. E

Maintain student records and prepare reports related to the student’s learning disability and academic progress. E

Provide work direction to lower-level staff. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.
Master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling AND 15 semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of learning disabilities, to include, adult cognitive and achievement assessment or the equivalent.

The Ventura County Community College District, in its desire to select outstanding faculty members from the largest possible pool of qualified applicants, recognizes the fact that candidates may attain expertise in a discipline through a variety of means. Certain combinations of education, experience and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the District as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Minimum Qualifications state: “Master’s degree in agriculture”.
Candidate’s transcripts state: “Master’s degree in agricultural science”.

Since the degree on the candidate’s transcripts in the example do not EXACTLY MATCH the degree listed in the minimum qualifications section, this candidate MUST complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency in order to be considered. When completing the form, be sure to explain in detail how your qualifications are equivalent to the required minimum qualifications. Do not assume that you do not need to submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency because your degree is similar to a degree stated in the minimum qualifications. Degree titles that are not an exact match will not be considered outside of the equivalency process.

The equivalency review is an independent process for district wide disciplines that is separate from the recruitment process to fill a vacancy. A subcommittee of discipline experts that is coordinated by an Academic Senate President will review the equivalency materials and make a recommendation as to whether or not the applicant demonstrated they have qualifications that are equivalent to those shown in the minimum qualifications section of the job posting. For disciplines that are unique to a specific campus the equivalency may be done by the hiring committee along with an Academic Senate President. Please be aware that the hiring committee may not be able to wait for the results from the equivalency review due to various time constraints and may need to move forward with the recruitment process.

If the qualifying degree has yet to be conferred and you expect to have the degree before you begin employment, you must submit transcripts that state the title of the degree you are working toward obtaining and indicate the anticipated completion date in your response to the associated supplemental question provided during the application process. PAY PHILOSOPHY

Annual salary is based on a ten month contract. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience for placement on the salary schedule. Maximum advanced salary placement credit for prior experience is 7 steps in Column I on the fulltime academic salary schedule (Download PDF reader).

Fringe benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for you and your eligible dependents.

SALARY RANGE
$60,391 to $81,522
