WHAT YOU’LL DO

Under the general direction of an assigned supervisor, provide acute and chronic illness and injury management, as well as education, services, and the evaluation of wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention information.
There is currently one anticipated full-time (40 hours/week, 12 months/year) vacancy located at Moorpark College.

This recruitment is also being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.

Moorpark College, one of three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District, was founded in 1967. It serves approximately 15,000 students, and with a “students first” philosophy, empowers its diverse community of learners to complete their goals for academic transfer, basic skills, and career education. Moorpark College is one of the most beautiful community colleges in California. Set on 150 acres, the campus is nestled in the foothills on the southeastern flank of Ventura County, about 40 miles from UCLA, and approximately 75 miles from UC Santa Barbara. It is also a short drive from CSU Northridge, CSU Channel Islands, and California Lutheran University. Moorpark College has been recognized as an Aspen 150 College for the last two years. Known for transfer of students to public and private universities, Moorpark College has the highest number of Associate Degree for Transfers among California community colleges its size.

SALARY PLACEMENT

New Employees: Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.

Current Employees: An employee who is promoted will be placed on the salary step of the new range of the appropriate salary schedule that provides a minimum increase comparable to a one-step increase in salary.

New and current employees may be eligible for advanced step placement as outlined in Section 290 – SALARY PLAN in the Rules of the Personnel Commission for Classified Employees (Download PDF reader).

Representative Duties

Take appropriate health history according to presenting complaint and physical findings, including pertinent negatives; formulate appropriate medical and nursing assessment of patient problems; discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and determine when to collaborate or refer to physician and/or specialist for further evaluation and/or treatment; provide feedback and/or follow-up to patients in a timely manner. E

Formulate appropriate disposition and/or treatment plan; order and interpret diagnostic tests; implement therapeutic treatment modalities (including medications) and provide appropriate patient instruction; determine the need for appropriate follow-up care and arrange for appropriate referrals of patients. E

Evaluate the total health care needs of patients and develop plans to meet those needs; provide counseling and support to patients as appropriate; integrate health education and instruction in health maintenance and disease prevention, including guidance in nutrition, risk factors, episodic illness, contraception, and self-care.

Prescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized, based on patient characteristics such as age and gender; administer appropriate injectable and oral medications, therapies, or immunizations. E

Maintain complete and detailed records of patients’ health care plans and prognoses. E

Participate with members of the Student Health Center staff and college community in planning and implementing student health programs to respond to identified needs. E

Attend a variety of professional workshops, seminars, conferences, and meetings as required.

Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, and ethnic communities. E

Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and equity-mindedness in working with individuals from diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors; and achieve equity in assignment-related outcomes. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A master’s degree from a recognized accredited college or university in nursing or a closely related field AND one year of experience working as a nurse practitioner in a health care setting or private practice.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California State license as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Practitioner

Valid furnishing number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing

Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number

Valid Basic Life Support certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:

B) Technical Interview = 100% weighting on final score

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (T&E) EVALUATION:

A T&E is an assessment of training and experience, beyond the minimum requirements, that has prepared the candidate for the position as evidenced in the application materials. The candidates with the highest passing scores on the T&E will be invited to the technical interview.
