Dr. Ward taught English at Tougaloo College in Mississippi for over three decades. He then served a a distinguished professor at Dillard University in New Orleans for 10 years before his retirement in 2012.
The appointments are Charles Bell at Illinois State University, Danielle Wood at MIT, Robert Gooding-Williams at Yale, and Maurice Dawson Jr. at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the Illinois Institute of Technology have partnered with the Oakland-based Kapor Center to launch the Illinois SMASH Academy, a 5-week, all-expenses paid STEM summer camp for high school students from underrepresented groups.

Dr. Adewumi, currently vice provost for global programs at Pennsylvania State University, will lead all of the not-for-profit's more than 360 academic programs, offered at more than 30 locations around the world, for more than 9,000 students a year.
Davis is a former Chicago police detective and served as deputy chief of staff to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. She has been serving as director of the Public Building Commission for the City of Chicago.
