Researchers Label North Carolina’s Eugenic Sterilization Program as Genocide

The paper found that North Carolina's eugenic sterilization was apparently tailored to asymptotically breeding-out the offspring of a presumably genetically unfit and undesirable surplus Black population. Sterilizations were aimed at reducing the future Black population - "genocide by any other name," the authors state.

Emory University’s Jericho Brown Wins the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry

John Warner Smith is the First Black Male Poet Laureate for the State of Louisiana

Currently, Smith teaches English at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Smith is a graduate of McNeese State University in Louisiana, where he majored in psychology and accounting. He holds two master's degrees.

University Project Is Creating a Database of Runaway Slave Advertisements

Researchers at Cornell University, the University of New Orleans, and the University of Alabama are collaborating on a project to digitize as many as 100,000 runaway slave advertisements that appeared in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century newspapers.
