Alton C. Standifer is chief of staff at Clemson University in South Carolina and Alfred S. Chandler Jr. is chief of police at Hampton University in Virginia. Dr. Gibbs has been serving as dean of the division of business and economics at Morehouse College in Atlanta. She is slated to become the first woman president of historically Black Texas College on July 1.

The African American Civil Rights grant program from the National Park Service has awarded grants to Auburn University, the University of Northern Colorado, Eastern Michigan University, Clemson University, and the University of South Carolina aimed at preserving sites and history relating to African Americans.

The new African American administrative appointees are Maria E. Hamilton Abegunde, Travis D. Boyce, Anthony Scott, Nevada Winrow, Angel Mason, Joyce Wilkerson, and Yakima S. Rhinehart.
