After serving on the faculty at Fisk University in Nashville, in 1956 Dr. Granville was hired by IBM Corporation and was assigned to work on a contract for NASA. Dr. Granville wrote programs to track orbital trajectories and calculations to ensure the safe re-entry of space vehicles into the atmosphere. She later taught at California State University and the University of Texas at Tyler.
Taking on new duties are Valerie Giddings at North Carolina A&T State University, Collin Stultz of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Robin R. Davis at Virginia Union University in Richmond, and Giselle Armond Abron at the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine.
Taking on new administrative duties are John E. Smith at Clark Atlanta University, Samira Malik at Northeastern University in Boston, Archie Tucker at the University of Texas at Tyler, and Rosalind Dale at North Carolina A&T State University.
Students from Jarvis Christian College will be able to transfer to selected bachelor's degree programs at the University of Texas at Tyler. Also, University of Texas at Tyler students will be able to pursue majors at Jarvis Christian College that are not offered at the university.
Michael V. Tidwell has been named the sole finalist to become president of the University of Texas at Tyler. Under state law, the board must wait 21 days after the announcement to make the appointment official. Tidwell is dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University.
