Blacks Make Up a Large Share of College Students With Military Service Credentials

The U.S. Department of Education reports that there were 852,000 college students in the 2007-08 academic year who were military veterans or were active duty members of the military or the reserves. They made up slightly more than 4 percent of all students enrolled in higher education.

Blacks made up 13 percent of total enrollments in higher education. But among students who are associated with the military, Blacks were 20 percent of all graduate students and 18 percent of all undergraduate students.
