Department of Education Awards Major Grants to HBCU Graduate Institutions

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded grants totaling more than $26 million under its Historically Black Graduate Institutions program. The program is geared toward strengthening the academic resources, endowments, and physical plants of HBCUs with important graduate and professional programs. The five institutions and the grant amounts are listed below:

Morehouse School of Medicine

The University of Texas School of Architecture Names Its Library After Its First Black Graduate

John Chase graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin in 1952, making him the school's first-ever Black graduate. Over seven decades later, the university has established the John S. Chase Architecture and Planning Library in his honor.
