In Memoriam: David Lloyd Mathews, 1949-2013

davidmathewsDavid L. Mathews, president of the Auburn Hills campus of Oakland Community College in Michigan, died late last month at the age of 64. He had begun his new duties as president this past January.

Mathews joined the administration at Oakland Community College in 2002 as dean of academic and student affairs at the Southfield campus. Later, he served as dean of business and information technology for the systemwide college. Prior to joining Oakland Community College, he held various faculty and administrative posts at Marygrove College in Detroit.

Mathews, a Vietnam veteran, was a graduate of Marygrove College. He held a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan.
