North Carolina A&T State University to Field a Motor Sports Race Team

motorsports-7b-backNorth Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro began a motor sports program in 2010 with the goal of increase diversity in track management, product or service suppliers to the racing industry, racing management, and within the ranks of corporate sponsors of racing events.

Students in the program take courses in racing rules and regulations, engineering, sports management, communications, marketing and demographics. Now to aid its students in the motor sports program, the university plans to field an actual racing team. The team will have a race car and this will allow the students to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of the racing industry. About 20 students are expected to participate as members of the race team.

The program was the brainchild of Greg Davis, a motor sports professional who will actually drive the race car for the time being. But Davis envisions establishing a scholarship program to recruit aspiring young drivers into the program.
