Former Professor to Chair California Committee Investigating Hate Crimes on College Campuses

shirley-weber-thumbThe speaker of the California State Assembly has created a 15-member commission to investigate harassment and hate crimes on the campus of the state’s public colleges and universities. The committee will be chaired by Shirley N. Weber, a Democrat Assemblywoman from San Diego.

Dr. Weber is a former faculty member at San Diego State University. She is a daughter of Arkansas sharecroppers and moved to California at the age of 3. She holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Weber joined the faculty at San Diego State University at the age of 23.
