Kevin Thomas, an associate professor of medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine in North Carolina, is the inaugural vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the medical school. He has been serving as assistant dean for underrepresented faculty development for the School of Medicine and as director of faculty diversity and health disparities research for the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Dr. Thomas joined the faculty at Duke in 2007.
Dr. Thomas received a bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Atlanta. He earned a medical doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Tiffany Taylor Smith has been promoted to vice president for diversity and inclusion at the University of Dayton in Ohio, effective January 4. She has served as executive director for inclusive excellence education at the university since 2017.
Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Rochester in New York. She holds a master’s degree in education, specializing in counseling services, from Fordham University in New York. Smith is now studying for a doctorate in education at the University of Dayton.
Kiwana McClung has been named interim chief diversity officer at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. She is an associate professor in the School of Architecture and Design. McClung’s research interests include diversity in design education, the impact of design and spatial considerations in societies that are increasingly becoming multicultural, and equity concerns in communities that have been impacted by flooding. She joined the faculty at the university in 2013.
McClung earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and humanities from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She holds a master of architecture degree from Louisiana State University.
