University of California San Francisco Names Nicholas Holmes President of Benioff Children’s Hospital

Nicholas Holmes has been named the next president of the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital and senior vice president of the University of California San Francisco Health Children’s Services. Dr. Holmes is returning to the university after previously serving as a pediatric urology fellow earlier in his career.

Dr. Holmes has been with Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego since 2014, currently serving as the senior vice president and chief operating officer. Throughout his tenure, he served in roles such as acting surgeon-in-chief, medical director of surgical services, and chief of pediatric urology. He has also served in the United States Navy where he was a commander, head urologist, and specialist advisor to the Navy surgeon general.

“During my fellowship at UCSF, I was very inspired by the faculty and staff’s spirit and deep commitment to children on both sides of the Bay,” Dr. Holmes said. “I’ve long admired UCSF’s dedication to being of service to the community and to providing a diverse and equitable workforce, and I’m incredibly honored by the opportunity to be a part of that.”

Dr. Holmes holds a master of business degree from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and a medical doctorate from Georgetown University in the District of Columbia.
