Three Black Scholars Selected for New Faculty Positions

Jack Eaddy has joined the faculty in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. In addition to his teaching role, he will serve as the university’s associate director of bands. He comes to the University of Georgia from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, where he has served as director of athletic bands for the past three years.

Dr. Eaddy holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Florida State University, a master of music degree in wind conducting from the University of Georgia, and a doctor of musical arts degree in wind conducting from the University of North Texas.

Karida Brown has been named the inaugural Diane Nash Descendants of the Emancipation Chair in the John Lewis Center for Social Justice at Fisk University in Nashville. She comes to her new role from the University of California, Los Angeles where she served as a professor of sociology and African American studies. In addition to her teaching appointment, she served as the director of racial equity and action for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

Dr. Brown holds a master of public administration degree in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in sociology from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Elihuruma Kimaro has been named an assistant teaching professor in the Hainan University-Arizona State University Joint International Tourism College housed within ASU’s School of Community Resources and Development. He previously served as a conservation officer for the Tanzania National Parks system.

Dr. Kimaro holds a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management from Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania, a master’s degree in education for sustainability from London South Bank University, a second master’s degree in life science and engineering from Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology in Tanzania, and a Ph.D. in evolution and behavior from the University of Minnesota.
