In Memoriam: Curtis Johnson

Curtis Johnson, chief of staff at Tennessee State University, passed away suddenly on September 3.

Dr. Johnson joined the Tennessee State University staff in 2013. He served as chief of staff to President Glenda Glover until her retirement. At the time of his death, he served as the HBCU’s vice president of administration and chief of staff to current interim president Ronald A. Johnson. In his role, he oversaw the university’s auxiliary services, providing key leadership and support to areas such as dining services, the TSU bookstore, and emergency management. Before his career at Tennessee State University, he was an administrator with Jackson State University in Mississippi.

Dr. Johnson held a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Jackson State University.
