Siobahn Day Grady has been named the inaugural director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Equity and Research at North Carolina Central University. A faculty member since 2019, she currently teaches as an assistant professor of information science and systems. She holds several other positions with the university, including co-director of the Center for Data Equity and director of the information science program.
Dr. Grady is the first woman to have earned a Ph.D. in computer science from North Carolina A&T State University. Prior to earning her doctorate, she received her bachelor’s degree in computer science from Winston-Salem State University, her master’s degree in information science from North Carolina Central University, and her second master’s degree in computer science from North Carolina A&T State University.
D’Jaris Coles-White has been appointed as the inaugural program director for the new master’s degree program in speech-language pathology at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. She comes to her new role from Western Michigan University, where she was an associate professor and associate chair of the department of speech, language, and hearing sciences. Her research focuses on autism and child language.
Dr. Coles-White holds a bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing sciences from Columbia College in South Carolina, a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. in communication disorders from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Shameka Shelby has been named deputy chief of staff and associate vice president for inclusive excellence at Florida Southern College. A faculty member with the college for over a decade, she serves as the Dr. John A. Leighty Endowed Chair in Chemistry and chair of the department of chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. Earlier, she was associate director of the honors program.
Dr. Shelby received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana and her Ph.D. in biological chemistry from the University of Michigan.
Otis Brown III has joined the faculty at the University of Rochester in New York as an assistant professor of jazz drum in the Eastman School of Music. A Grammy-nominated drummer, Brown has performed with several well-known artists and frequently collaborates with modern dance choreographers.
Brown is a graduate of Delaware State University, where he majored in music.
Pamlea Brady has been promoted to associate professor in the division of natural sciences and mathematics at Talladega College in Alabama. She joined the faculty at the college in 2019. Her current research focuses on investigating the structure and function of novel coronavirus macrodomains.
Dr. Brady earned a bachelor’s in chemistry from Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. She holds a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Louisiana State University.
