Tennessee State University Alumnus Launches HBCU$™ to Address Public Funding Gaps at HBCUs

HBCU$™, an alumni giving and wealth building network dedicated to addressing public funding disparities at historically Black colleges and universities, is officially launching on May 1.

Founded by Tennessee State University alumnus Dorsey West, HBCU$™ will promote HBCU alumni and student-owned businesses through a free online marketing platform. Participating business owners will donate a portion of any additional revenue generated back to the college or university of their choice.

“With unprecedented budget cuts happening at the national and state levels, HBCUs
are going to need increased financial support from the private sector, as well as their
alumni,” said West. “I created HBCU$™ to maximize contributions from both sources.”

He continued, “Consistently patronizing companies that contribute money back to historically Black colleges and universities creates a self-sustaining cycle that can help close the funding gap for these institutions and provide long-term economic growth for businesses within the HBCU$™ network. So, it’s a win-win for the HBCUs and their entrepreneurs.”

More information on how to get involved with HBCU$™ can be found here.
