Donald Comer Is the Eleventh President of Lane College in Tennessee

Following almost two years of interim service, Donald W. Comer has been officially named the eleventh president of Lane College.

Lane College is a historically Black undergraduate college in Jackson, Tennessee. According to the most recent federal data, the HBCU enrolls more than 700 students, 64 percent of whom are Black.

“I am honored by the board’s confidence and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Lane College in this capacity,” said Dr. Comer. “Over the past two years, we have built a strong foundation together. The work ahead remains focused, and our commitment to excellence will continue to guide every step forward.”

Prior to his interim appointment, Dr. Comer was an executive with FedEx for more than three decades, holding various positions in data analytics, marketing, finance, strategic planning, and project management. He ultimately served as the company’s vice president for decision science & analytics and operational analysis.

In addition to his professional background, Dr. Comer has extensive experience as an advocate for HBCUs and African American business education. He has served on the board of trustees for Stillman College in Alabama and LeMoyne-Owen College in Tennessee. Dr. Comer also spent nine years as chairman of the board for the National Black MBA Association.

Dr. Comer holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee at Martin, an MBA from the University of Memphis, and a Ph.D. in urban higher education from historically Black Jackson State University in Mississippi.
