Six Black Americans Taking on Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Blaire Hines has been appointed director of the Lincoln University Employment Academy in Missouri. Most recently, she served as program director of Missouri Girls Town in Kingdom City. She previously worked for St. Louis Community College as a program planner and continuing education coordinator.

Hines received her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and women and gender studies from the University of Missouri and her master’s degree in education from Lindenwood University in Missouri. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at Capella University.

Stephanie Johnson has been named athletic director at Goucher College in Baltimore. Currently, she is the associate director of athletics for compliance and Title IX, senior woman administrator, and interim head women’s volleyball coach at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. Earlier, she was assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator at Brevard College in North Carolina.

Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Coppin State University in Baltimore and a master’s degree in sport commerce from the University of Memphis in Tennessee.

LaShundria Allen has been appointed executive administrative assistant for the University of Arkansas Police Department. She has over a decade of experience in administrative operations. Since 2015, she has been the assistant to the chief of police at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Allen received her bachelor’s degree in general studies from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Avery D. McKnight has been named vice president of legal affairs and general counsel at Florida A&M University. He previously held this position from 2007 to 2016. More recently, he was a shareholder at Allen Norton & Blue, P.A., where he represented public and private employers in state and federal court.

McKnight received his bachelor’s degree in data processing from Florida A&M University and his juris doctorate from Florida State University.

Orielle E. Hope has been appointed assistant vice chancellor of human resources operations at North Carolina A&T State University. She comes to NCAT from Salem Academy and College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she was director of human resources and benefits.

Hope earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Winston-Salem State University and her master’s degree in human resources from North Carolina A&T State University.

Tiffany Wright has been promoted to senior vice president and general counsel at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. For the past two years, she has served as the university’s deputy general counsel. Prior to joining the Johns Hopkins administration, she was associate counsel for racial justice and equity in the Office of the White House Counsel.

Wright earned her juris doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center.
