New Academic Appointments for Three Black Educators at HBCUs

Kisha Cunningham Aites has been named associate dean of the College of Education at Savannah State University in Georgia. A faculty member since 2013, she currently teaches as a professor of engineering technology. She has chaired her department on an interim basis since 2019. Earlier, she was coordinator of interdisciplinary studies.

Dr. Aites is a two-time graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in technology education. She holds a Ph.D. in workforce education and training development from Pennsylvania State University.

Bracy C. Martin, Jr. has been selected to serve as interim director of bands at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. He has been serving as the HBCU’s assistant director of bands. As a lecturer of music, he teaches a wide range of courses featuring topics such as African Americans in music and music education methods.

An Elizabeth City State University alumnus, Martin holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in music education. He is slated to complete his Ph.D. in the same discipline this summer.

Archie Williams has been appointed associate dean of academics for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. Before joining the Alcorn State faculty, he served in several capacities at Fort Valley State University in Georgia, including service as professor and chair of the engineering technology department.

Dr. Williams is a graduate of Fort Valley State University, where he majored in electronic engineering technology. He hold a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in agricultural and biological engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
