Pamela Richardson Wilks Is the New President of Clinton College in South Carolina

Pamela Richardson Wilks has been named the fourteenth president of Clinton College. Located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the historically Black college enrolls about 100 undergraduate students. African Americans make up 91 percent of the student body. Dr. Wilks’ presidency went into effect on June 1.

With a career in higher education that spans more than 25 years, Dr. Wilks has extensive experience as an HBCU administrator. She comes to Clinton College after a brief stint at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. Earlier this year, she assumed the role of Paine’s provost and executive vice president. Previously, she spent three years as provost of Coppin State University in Baltimore. She has also held leadership roles with Edward Waters University in Florida and Shaw University in North Carolina.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the next president of Clinton College,” said Dr. Wilks. “Clinton holds a sacred legacy grounded in faith, resilience, and opportunity. I look forward to working with the board, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the Rock Hill community to expand access and research, elevate student success, and position Clinton College as a bold, faith-driven institution for the future.”

A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Wilks received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in English from North Carolina A&T State University. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
