The New Dean of the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Following more than a year of interim service, Morgan Chitiyo has been officially named dean of the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His appointment went into effect on May 1.

Before his interim appointment in January 2025, Dr. Chitiyo, a professor of special education, served five years as chair of the university’s department of specialized education services. Earlier in his career, he held various leadership roles at the School of Education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, including director of the special education program and chair of the department of counseling, psychology, and special education. As a scholar, Dr. Chitiyo focuses on positive behavior supports, autism, inclusive education, and special education professional development for school teachers.

“I am deeply honored to be appointed Dean of the School of Education and grateful for the confidence placed in me by the university’s leadership,” said Dr. Chitiyo. “At a time when education is both facing profound challenges and offering transformative opportunities, I am energized to partner with our outstanding faculty, staff, and students to lead with purpose and vision. Together, we will strengthen our commitment to excellence in teaching, research, service, and community engagement, while expanding our impact in preparing the next generation of educators and leaders. I look forward to building on the school’s momentum and advancing bold, innovative work that serves our communities and shapes the future of education.”

Dr. Chitiyo earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Africa University in Zimbabwe. He holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in exceptional learning with an emphasis in applied behavior analysis from Tennessee Technological University.
