Four African American Men Appointed to New Posts in Higher Education

F. Carl Walton was appointed vice president for student affairs at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. He has been serving in the post on an interim basis since January. Previously, he was associate vice president for student development. He also serves as a tenured associate professor of political science, having joined the faculty in 2004.

A graduate of Morris Brown College, Dr. Walton holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from Purdue University.

Everett Mitchell has been appointed community relations director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since May 2010 he has been an assistant district attorney for Dane County, Wisconsin. Previously, he was associate director of the Madison-Area Urban Ministry.

Mitchell is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta and the University of Wisconsin Law School. He holds two master’s degrees from the Princeton Theological Seminary.

Marvin Dawkins, a Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of Miami, has been named as the faculty representative to the Atlantic Coast Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In this position, Dr. Dawkins will be responsible for ensuring the academic integrity of students in the university’s athletic programs.

Professor Dawkins is a graduate of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Florida State University.

Timothy Bellamy is the new director of public safety at North Carolina Central University in Durham. He is the former chief of police in Greensboro, North Carolina. He served for 27 years on the Greensboro police force.

Bellamy is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University. He holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
