Theodorea Regina Berry Named to Dean Position at the University of Central Florida

Theodorea Regina Berry was appointed dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She will also hold the title of vice provost for teaching and learning. Dr. Berry will begin her new duties in January.

“I am extremely excited to join the University of Central Florida on its path toward transforming higher education in the 21st century while serving as a model for building a strong academic community inclusive of faculty, staff, students, and administrators,” Dr. Berry said. “I look forward to working with UCF in continuing its commitment to research, scholarship and academic rigor with access to innovative curriculum and teaching for students throughout Florida and the U.S.”

Currently, Dr. Berry is a professor and chair of the department of African American studies at San Jose State University in California. Prior to joining San Jose State University, Berry served in various leadership roles at the University of Texas in San Antonio. Dr. Berry is the author of States of Grace: Counterstories of a Black Woman in the Academy (Peter Lang International Academic Publishers, 2018).

Dr. Berry is a graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, where she majored in communication. She holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and a doctorate in curriculum and social policy from National-Louis University in Chicago.
