Stanford and Claflin Universities Name African Americans to Athletics Director Posts

Bernard Muir was named the Jaquish and Kenninger Director of Athletics at Stanford University in California. Since 2009 he has been the director of athletics and recreation services at the University of Delaware. From 2005 to 2009 he was director of athletics for Georgetown University.

Muir is a graduate of Brown University, where he was a four-year letter winner in basketball. He holds a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Jerome Fitch was appointed director of athletics at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He is the former athletics director at Alabama A&M University and Savannah State University in Georgia. He coached the men’s basketball teams at Johnson C. Smith University, Voorhees College, and Livingstone College.

Dr. Fitch holds a master’s degree from North Carolina Central University and an educational doctorate from South Carolina State University.
