A Trio of Black Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Administrative Roles

Rodman King has been named the next dean of institutional equity and inclusion at Connecticut College, effective January 31. He has been serving as chief diversity and inclusion officer at the State University of New York at Oswego.

Dr. King is a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College in Chili, New York. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Rochester in New York.

Ivy Banks was appointed vice president for institutional diversity and inclusion at Xavier University in Cincinnati. She is the former associate vice provost for diversity and inclusion at the University of Arizona. Banks serves as vice chair of the Chief Diversity Officers Steering Committee of the Association of American Universities. She will begin her new duties at Xavier University in late January.

Banks holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Cleveland State University. She earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and a juris doctorate from the University of Akron in Ohio.

Donald “DJ” Mitchell, Jr. has been named the inaugural vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Molloy College in Rockville Center, New York, effective February 1. He has been serving as the chief diversity officer at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Mitchell joined the faculty at Bellarmine University in August 2017 as a full professor of education. Earlier, he was an assistant professor of higher education at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.

Professor Mitchell holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato and a Ph.D. in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
