Roberta Waite Appointed Dean of the Georgetown University School of Nursing

Roberta Waite will be the dean of the Georgetown University School of Nursing, effective July 1, 2022.

A fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Academy of Nurse Education of the National League for Nursing, Dr. Waite will join Georgetown from Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she is a professor of nursing. She also serves as the executive director of the university’s Stephen and Sandra Sheller 11th Street Family Health Services – a nurse-managed community-based organization that provides comprehensive care to thousands of individuals each year.

“I lead with my values because my values are core.” Dr. Waite said. “I believe my values align with Georgetown’s because core values I would say of mine are supporting social and racial justice, valuing humanity, collective liberation, empathy, interdependence, having fun, humor, and kindness. Those are key things that really drive a lot of what I do.

“I want to engage with the community in so many different ways,” Dr. Waite added. “I’m very much so a people person. So really being able to cultivate relationships with all of the different community members, from colleagues, faculty, staff, students, families, alumni, both in-person and distant, as well as our community stakeholders is going to be important.”

Dr. Waite holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in education from Widener University with a focus on higher education administration leadership. She holds a master’s degree in nursing with a focus on adult psychiatric-mental health nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
