Two African American Scholars Who Have Been Named to Endowed Faculty Posts

Byron D. Ford was appointed to the M. Wharton Young Endowed Chair in Anatomy at the Howard University College of Medicine. He will hold the rank of professor and will serve as chair of the department of anatomy. Dr. Ford has been serving as associate dean of medical education and tenured professor at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. Earlier, Dr. Ford was professor and vice chair in the department of neurobiology at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta from 2001-2015. Dr. Ford’s research has centered on the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in stroke.

Professor Ford received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Grambling State University in Louisiana. He holds a Ph.D. in neurophysiology from Meharry Medical College n Nashville.

Allison Curseen has been appointed the Cooney Family Assistant Professor at Boston College. Her research focuses on African American and 19th-century American literature and culture. Her particular interests include performance and performance studies, child studies, and theories of fugitivity and unruliness.

Dr. Cruseen is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned a master of fine arts degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

In Memoriam: Nathan Howard Cook, 1939-2024

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
