Morgan State University in Baltimore Has Named Five Black Women to Administrative Posts

Morgan State University, the historically Black educational institution in Baltimore, has announced the appointment of five Black women to administrative positions.

Chevonie Oyegoke has assumed the role of assistant vice president and chief human resources officer. Oyegoke joins Morgan having most recently served as associate human resources director with the University System of Maryland. Oyegoke is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in communication. She earned a master’s degree in human resource development from Bowie State University in Maryland and a master’s degree in negotiation and conflct management from the University of Baltimore.

OluwaTosin Adegbola has been promoted to serve as executive director of the Clara I. Adams Honors College while continuing in her role as special advisor to the university’s president. She has worked for Morgan State for two decades. Dr. Adegbola is a graduate of Kentucky State University, where she majored n English. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in communication from Howard University in Washington. D.C.

Laura Dorsey-Elson, who previously served as director of instruction in the School of Global Journalism and Strategic Communication, has been tapped to serve as director for the newly launched Center for Innovative Instruction & Scholarship at Morgan State. She has been at Morgan State for more than 20 years. Dr. Dorsey-Elson is a graduate of te University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in Engllish language and literature. She holds a Ph.D. in organizational communication from Howard University.

Erin Oliver-James is the new director for the Office of Procurement and Property Control. She comes to Morgan from Events DC, where she managed the Office of Contracts and Procurement and its more than $80 million in annual procurements. Oliver-James is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia and the Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Sonya Clyburn has been hired as the new director for the University Counseling Center. She spent the past seven years overseeing a private practice based in Kensington, Maryland. Earlier, she worked at Morgan State University serving in both a clinical and faculty capacity. Dr. Clyburn is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Bowie State University in Maryland and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Argosy University.
