Four African Americans Who Have Been Assigned Duties Relating to Diversity in Higher Education

Bobbie Porter has been named first vice president and chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer at California State University, Dominguez Hills. For the past four years, she has been the chief diversity officer and assistant vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at California State University, Fullerton. She will begin her new role on July 1.

Dr. Porter holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Memphis. She also holds a master of public administration degree from Tennessee State University.

Saint Rice was named assistant dean director of faculty, staff, and community engagement at the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. In this role, Dr. Rice will implement and lead the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan and initiative efforts.  He recently served as the director of the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Dr. Rice is a graduate of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. He holds an educational doctorate from Maryville University in St. Louis.

Kent Guion, professor of public health in the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, was named the Leadership Fellow for Partner Engagement, Diversity, and Health Equity in the college. He served as the inaugural chief diversity officer at the university from 2015 to 2020. Dr. Guion is the former vice president for diversity and inclusion at Georgia Regents University.

Dr. Guion is a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he majored in zoology. He holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology and a medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Pamela Braboy Jackson was named the first associate vice president for faculty and belonging at Indiana University in Bloomington. Dr. Jackson will be part of the senior leadership team within the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs. Currently director of graduate studies in the College of Arts and Sciences’ department of sociology, Dr. Jackson was the founding director of the Indiana Univerity Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society.

Dr. Jackson holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Indiana University.
