Two Black Scholars Who Have Been Appointed Deans at Historically Black Universities

Paul B. Tchounwou was appointed the new dean of the School of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Morgan State University in Baltimore, effective January 1, 2023. Dr. Tchounwou has been serving as a Presidential Distinguished Professor and executive director of the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Center for Health Disparities Research at Jackson State University in Mississippi. Earlier, he was the associate dean for research, graduate studies and international programs in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology at Jackson State.

Dr. Tchounwou received a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Yaounde in Cameroon. He earned a master’s degree in environmental health and a doctorate in environmental toxicology from the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans

Aisha Morris Moultry has been named interim dean of the recently-established College of Transdisciplinary Studies at Texas Southern University in Houston. The new college will establish a degree pathway for people who started college but did not graduate. Since 2016, Dr. Moultry has served as the associate dean of academic affairs in the university’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

Dr. Moultry holds a pharmacy doctorate from Texas Southern University and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Texas Tech University.
