Following one year of service as interim president, Christopher Davis has been officially named the fourteenth president of LeMoyne-Owen College. His presidency began on July 8.
LeMoyne-Owen College is a historically Black educational institution in Memphis, Tennessee. The college enrolls roughly 600 undergraduate students. African Americans represent about 95 percent of the student body.
Over the past yeart, Dr. Davis has led LeMoyne-Owen College through a rebranding initiative, an increase in athletic programming, and improvements to campus infrastructure. He previously served on the board of trustees for eight years.
For more than a decade, Dr. Davis served on the faculty at Memphis Theological Seminary. Prior to his interim presidential appointment at LeMoyne-Owen College, he served as the seminary’s associate dean. His teaching and research endeavors have centered around preaching and pastoral ministry.
Dr. Davis holds bachelor’s degrees from the University of Arkansas and Arkansas Baptist College. He earned a master’s degree in religion from the Memphis Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Ohio. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from Anderson University.
