Hartford International University for Religion and Peace
President

Hartford International University for Religion and Peace (HIU), one of the nation’s leading resources for interreligious education, research, chaplaincy and peace studies, seeks its next president. The next president has an opportunity to grow this newly renamed and rebranded institution and will take the helm of a university that enables “leaders and institutions to thrive in a religiously complex world.” Founded in 1834 and formerly known as the Hartford Seminary, this storied institution was the first in the nation to admit women as full-time students, became the first Christian seminary to hire full-time Muslim faculty and is renowned for its focus on relations among the Abrahamic traditions.

No longer a Christian seminary, Hartford International is still well known its chaplaincy programs, and the historic Black Ministries Program. With strong outreach to Jewish and Muslim partners, Hartford International brings people of all religions and faith traditions to study together. Offering MA, Ph.D., and DMin degrees, certificate programs and community and professional education, students of many faiths and from many countries learn together, consistent with the University’s tagline: “Exploring Differences, Deepening Faith.”

The next president will continue to build the reputation of the renamed and rebranded Hartford International University. In this role, the president will promote diversity in all respects and honor and expand relationships with religious communities within the nation and across the world. The president will be expected to grow and diversify revenue streams through increased enrollment, fund-raising and mutually beneficial partnerships and will continue to offer educational programs consistent with the rebranded goals and market demands.
